How to adopt
Our goal is to find and place homeless/unwanted dogs on their forever sofas and match dogs to suitable adoptive parents, ensuring we find the right home for our special friends.
Great care is taken to match the right owner with the right dog, ensuring a lifetime of love for both the pet and the adopter. To ensure the best matches are made, we have a process that has proven to be effective in determining the best homes for our animals.
Step 1
Adoption Application & Review
The first step is to fill out an adoption application. This application will tell us about you and your lifestyle, beliefs and general suitability for adopting a dog. Your application will then be reviewed by a member of our team.
Step 2
Home Visit and Applicant Interview
Rushton Dog Rescue rehome responsibly, so we require a visit to your home to check that the dog will be living in a safe environment. The home visit will be conducted by one of our volunteers who will do a short walk-through of your home and garden to ensure its safety and advise on areas of concern. This is an informal chance for us to get to know you and determine if your home is suitable for one of our dogs.
Existing dogs in household must be spayed/neutered unless medical evidence can be presented.
If our home visit volunteer has any major concerns about your home environment, or if you refuse a home visit, your application will be denied at this point in the process.
Step 3
Meeting Available Dogs
After approval, a member of our team will contact you about scheduling a meeting with the dog(s) you are interested in. This meeting will occur at the rescue centre.
Due to the high amount of applications that we receive for some dogs we may schedule multiple meetings with potential owners until we decide on a suitable placement.
We reserve the right to deny your application for a particular dog. However we may offer an alternative dog that would better suit your environment.
Once you are happy and we have made a final decision we will get everything arranged and your new addition to your family will be on their way to joining you!
We kindly ask for a minimum non-refundable adoption fee of £450. This contributes towards any necessary medical care, neutering/spaying, vaccines and any other medical care required before adoption.
If your application for adoption is refused, we will always give you a reason and encourage you to re-apply at a later date if circumstances or conditions change and become suitable.
Rescue back up
Ruston Dog Rescue operate a lifetime rescue back up, if your circumstances change and you are unable to give your dog the care and attention it needs then they will always have a safe space with us.
